Valve Lash

Setting your valve clearances (called "lash") is critical in keeping your engine at its peak for as long as possible. Due to heat and wear, the XJ/FJ motor will adjust itself over the course of time and create all sorts of unwanted valve last combinations. To combat this, you must stay vigilant about what the clearances in your valve train.

HSR recommends the following settings for valve lash:

Intake Valve Lash: .004 to .005

Exhaust Valve Lash: .006 to .007

Valve lash can be adjusted easily with our Valve Adjustment Shim Kit, which contains a tool to depress the valve and allow easy removal and replacement of shims.
